Weeks 3 and 4

Kayla is still reporting that her days at school are "perfect." Sometimes when I ask her, "How was your day today?" she slips and says, "Goo-- I mean, PERFECT!" Dropping her off at school in the mornings is getting better too. George stays in the lobby while he watches Kayla walk down the hall. For a few days, she would take a few steps, then turn around to make sure George was still watching her, and walk a few steps, and turn around to look for George (George says she kind of meandered down the hall in a curvy path because she kept veering off course whenever she turned around). One day, George counted 10 head turns down the hallway. About three days ago, though, Kayla stopped turning around. She said that as she walked down the hallway, she thought to herself that she wasn't going to turn around. Sure enough, she didn't and it's been about three days in a row. Kayla is starting to recognize more people at her school, too, so that's nice. She has fun at SACC (after school care) and has a first grade friend there.

Jocelyn is also doing great at preschool. Mondays can be rough because she's so clingy. This past Monday she kept asking, "I want Mommy. I want Mommy to stay with me." I could hear her crying as I walked down the hall. :( The assistant said that Jocie calmed down quickly though, less than a minute and she was fine. Jocie still likes doing her pin punch work and her water work. At Back to School Night, her teacher did a phenomenal job explaining the purpose behind the work. It was very enlightening. The pin punch helps with the pincer grip that kids need in order to hold a pencil properly when they're older. It also helps them get focused and concentrate on their work for longer periods of time. The pouring work is just what it sounds like - but the pitchers and mini-sized so it's perfect for little hands to mimic what they see their parents doing every day. It all makes so much more sense now!

Jocelyn's afternoon teachers love to sing songs too. Here she is singing the Firetruck Song:

In case you can't understand her singing, here are the lyrics:
Hurry, hurry, drive the fire truck (3x)
ding ding ding ding ding

Hurry, hurry, climb the ladder (3x)
ding ding ding ding ding

Hurry, hurry, spray the water (3x)
ding ding ding ding ding

I couldn't figure out why she kept falling down after the song was over until I asked one of the afternoon teachers about it. The scoop is that the kids love the "spray the water" verse and spin in circles as fast as they can and get dizzy and fall down. Jocie says she doesn't like to spin around too fast but she falls down anyway. :-P
