Holy Batman!

Tonight was Kayla's Back to School Night. I picked up pizza after work and then picked up Jocie from preschool. The kids were all playing outside and Jocelyn ran up to the gate as soon as she saw my car pull up. The teacher said something to her that sounded to me like, "bye, big girl!" and then one of Jocie's classmates, a boy named Matias, shouted, "bye, batgirl!". Jocie smiled and shouted back, "bye, batman!"

When we got into the car, Jocie sniffed a few times (like a bunny rabbit) and said really loudly, "I smell pizza!" I said, "really?" she said, "yeah, why it smell like pizza? Did you eat pizza, mama?" I shook my head, "no, I haven't eaten any pizza." at that moment, George called so I answered on speakerphone while I strapped Jocie into her seat. I could barely hear him or talk to him because Jocie kept shouting "I smell pizza!!!!". Finally, as I tightened her seat straps, she looked down and saw the pizza boxes and said, "ohhhhh, I see pizza!!!!"

Two very sweet girls came over to babysit while George and I went to back to school night. Kayla's teacher is very peppy and energetic. We like her a lot so far. Also found out that one of my colleagues also has a daughter named kaylinn in the same class. We got to see Kayla's journal entries for writing time too.

The picture below was her journal entry the first day I left her a note in her lunchbox and she cried at lunchtime because she missed me. After lunch she was still crying so her teacher suggested she journal about her family so it would help her feel better.

Her teacher showed me this page the next day. She talked with the class how kindergarteners write in all different ways; some draw pictures to tell a story, others write down the first letter in the word. Kayla was the only one in the entire class who wrote a sentence. (TJ and Harvard, here we come!)

Can't wait to see all the progress she makes this year!
