I can hardly believe that it's been two years since George and I set foot in the hospital, fully expecting to be sent home and instead, staying and Kayla entering the world some 7 hours later. And now we're the proud parents of two little girls!
This past Saturday, my most wonderful and amazing friend since diapers and her husband surprised me with a visit. She and George coordinated (no wonder he didn't want to go to the zoo that day!) and showed up at our house at noon. What really threw me off was George disappearing downstairs and then two minutes later, my friend's face peeks out the basement door! We grilled for lunch and then she took me out for a manicure and pedicure. It was an absolutely lovely afternoon, being that I can't even remember the last time I've gotten my nails done. She also baked a delicious lemon cake with violets on top. Apparently these cake photos are the only pictures we got that day (I'm pretty sure she has more pics on her camera, so if you're reading this Mrs. H, I'd love to get copies). Kayla downed an entire slice of cake by herself.

Today, me and Kayla's actual birthday, was pretty low-key. I baked cupcakes and George and I brought them to her day care this afternoon. We also gave bubbles out to Kayla's 11 day care friends. It was drizzly so the kids had lots of fun "catching" the bubbles indoors.

After dinner, Kayla opened up her presents. Since George is working on building a toy kitchen out of Ikea components, her toys were mostly kitchen-themed. (And they will remain in their packages until the basement and kitchen are complete. Don't need any more random toys scattered across the main level of the house right now.) Kayla was allowed to open up her Wonder Pets flyboat though!

Happy Birthday, sweet little Kayla! May this year be filled with fun, excitement and adventure! And thanks for sharing my birthday so I don't have time to stress out about turning another year older!

kayla looks like she had a growth spurt! she starting to look like a 'big' (relatively speaking!) girl!
