Midweek Weigh-In

Went back to the doctor's office today, where Jocelyn got weighed just to make sure she is maintaining/gaining weight. I can't remember what the nurse at the hospital said, but I think babies typically lose 10% of their initial birth weight before gaining it back again. Jocelyn started off at 5 lbs., 13 oz. On Sunday morning before we were discharged from the hospital, she was 5 lbs, 9.9 oz. At Monday's doctor's checkup, she was 5 lbs, 10 oz (topping the growth charts at the fourth percentile)!! Today, she was back up at 5 lbs, 13.5 oz. which means she gained 3.5 ounces in two days. The nurse told me that you should expect a newborn to gain one ounce per day so Jocelyn is well on her way to a big potbelly like her older sister! :-) [In case anyone is wondering, the receptionist at the front desk was very nice to me today, almost too sugary-sweet nice, but whatever!! I am still not a fan of her because she had to finish up her conversation with a nurse about where to get a certain perfume and jotted down some notes about said perfume before even making a point to say, "How can I help you?" or whatever it is you're supposed to say when you greet a patient.]

I am hoping Jocelyn starts waking up more often during the day to nurse because after feeding her while I was half asleep last night, I was super uncomfortable (you breastfeeding mommies know what I'm talking about), my shirt was all wet and then I woke up to the stinky milk smell because I had been too lazy to get out of bed to change my clothes in the middle of the night. I want to know why Jocelyn falls asleep so soundly during the day when I use the nursing pillow to feed her - she is pretty much passed out afterwards and is totally limp when I burp her (Yes Auntie Melissa, the girl burps after almost every feeding!!!) yet at night, after I nurse her, Jocelyn gets all fussy or makes a poopie and doesn't fall asleep unless I nurse her again, which then makes her fussy/poopie all over again... Such a vicious cycle!

Having Ah-Gong and Ah-ma around to help has been a huge blessing... but having Ah-Gong as Kayla's personal playmate might be backfiring on us! Yesterday, my dad was taking Libby out for a walk just as George pulled into the driveway after picking Kayla up from day care. She saw them from the car and was so upset because she couldn't follow them and kept saying "Ah-GONG! Libby! Ah-GONG!" and wouldn't take off her coat or shoes when she got inside. This morning, George got her out of bed and dressed but Kayla kept asking for "Ah-GONG!" Then he tried feeding her yogurt for breakfast but she refused to eat it until Ah-Gong fed it to her! He actually has to go back to PA tomorrow for a meeting and will be back Friday but it will be interesting to see how Kayla does without him here.

There are still so many things to take care of that I stress about and get overwhelmed over, but don't have the energy or motivation to do anything about! Jocelyn came earlier than expected, not that one week really would have made a difference, but still... My random list of things to get done:
1. Buy a crock pot. I guess this can wait since my mom is cooking while she's here.
2. Buy a step-can for Jocelyn's diapers. I don't want a stainless steel one (those definitely look like they belong in the bathroom) but a white one, like we have in Kayla's room. George thinks I'm making a big deal out of nothing and says we should just get the stainless steel one at the Bed Bath & Beyond closest to us. I say we (or someone) goes to the Bailey's store to get the white one.
3. Vacuum upstairs. I assigned this job to my parents this morning. We'll see if it gets done.
4. Get a smaller dog bed for Libby. Poor girl has been sleeping on the hard uncomfortable floor for several months now. And she's getting older too!
5. Get a cheapie audio baby monitor. Thought I had snagged a good deal on Craigslist last week and sent George out on Sunday afternoon to go pick it up but the seller was a flake and emailed him and claimed that when she started looking for it, she remembered she lent it to a friend several months ago.
6. Buy a baby's first year book for Jocelyn. should I even bother at this point?
7. Get out the baby swing and baby bouncer from the yucky basement. But where would they go???
8. Fix/replace the hook on the bathroom door.
9. Clean the bathrooms.
10. Straighten out/organize the clothes in Jocelyn's nursery.
11. Look for day care

And the list goes on and on...

Okay well I'm totally rambling now and boring 99.5% of you so I'll just leave you with some photos and a video. My new flip cam should be coming tomorrow so maybe we'll have more videos soon! She opened her eyes for a few minutes this afternoon and then we blinded her with the camera "flash light" (as my parents so stubbornly insist calling it)!!

  2. btw, if you compare her most recent ultrasound pic (the top one) with this photo (http://www.flickr.com/photos/insomniackaren/3253910796/in/set-72157613358971154/), it's scary how good those ultrasounds are...wowie.
