Thanks to Hurricane Sandy, Fairfax County announced on Sunday afternoon that schools would be closed Monday and Tuesday. At lunch and dinner, we prayed for the safety of our friends and family who live along Sandy's path. We also mentioned that we might need to sleep in the basement Monday night to be extra careful, as we have a lot of mature trees around our house. This caused Jocelyn to worry a little, and last night she conveniently used it as an excuse for needing me to stay upstairs with her at bedtime. In spite of my attempts to reassure her that everything would be ok last night and that the worst of the storm was expected to hit Monday during the day, she asked for George to come back up for an extra hug.
George went to her room and told her the same things I had just told her minutes prior. Then she asked him, if it gets really windy, you'll come get us and bring us to the basement?

This morning, Jocelyn woke up and happily announced, It's PAJAMA DAY, YAYYYY! Then she stopped a moment to think and said, But we still have to brush our teeth, right?

There is a little boy in Jocie's class who comes from a Spanish-speaking family. His name is Cristobal. So when the class was learning about Christopher Columbus a few weeks ago, Jocie would call him "Cristobal Columbus." Which, of course, is how you would say his name in Spanish.
Somehow we got back onto the topic of Cristobal Columbus today and Jocie proceeded to name his three ships. "pinta, Lina and the Santa Maria." (Lina is the name of a little girl in her class.)

We actually are camped out in the basement tonight. (It's not working too well, as both girls are still awake as I thumb type this on the iPad.) we moved the two crib size mattresses down to the basement so it'd be a little more comfortable but had to clean up some Legos first that Jocie had played with earlier in the day. As she was putting the Legos away, she held up a structure and said, Look! I build the apple tower!!
Huh? I thought, then realized she meant the Eiffel Tower. Ohhhh, I said, yes, you mean the Eiffel Tower, I told her.
Yeah! She said. Eiffel Tower!
How do you know about the Eiffel Tower? I asked.
'Cause I know, she replied.
KAyla chimed in, I know about the Eiffel Tower too. That's the one that's shaped like the letter A!
I seriously have no idea where they learn all this stuff from. Maybe it's really all those wonder pets episodes they've watched over the years?M
Heyee, hope yall ok! Good idea to sleep in the basement. We didn't do that!!! And love all the Jocelyn-isms in this post from PAJAMA DAYYY to naming 2 kids in her class on Columbus Day. So smart these kids!
