More Kayla-isms

Last Friday, as I was driving Kayla to preschool, it suddenly dawned on me that I only had one week left to prepare for Jocelyn's birthday (we are having a small celebration with family). I exclaimed, "Kayla, guess what?! Next week is Jocelyn's birthday! I can't believe she's turning two!!" (At this point I think I started tearing up.)

From the backseat, Kayla shouted, "Yea! And then whose birthday is it?" Lately she's been telling everyone that she's turning four soon. We have to keep reminding her that Jocie turns two first, and then she has to wait until May 5th for her birthday.

"Well, JoJo's birthday comes next, " I tell her.

"Then who?"

"Then it's Ah-Gong's birthday."

"Then who? "

I over enthusiastically say, "then it will be Mommy and Kayla's birthday! YAYYYYY! "

"YEAAAAA!!!!!! I'm gonna be FOUR YEARS OLD! !!"

"Kayla, I can't believe you'll be four soon. It seems like just yesterday that you were a teeny tiny baby, as big as a football. It makes me sad. Don't grow up too fast, okay?"

"Don't worry, Mommy," Kayla said reassuringly. "Next year I'll turn one years old. And I'll have pig cupcakes for my party like when i was a baby."

Last week, on our Ice day off from school and work, I let Kayla play with a bunch of pipe cleaners while I tried to get some work done on the computer. Jocie was napping, so i let Kayla go to town after showing her that you could bend the pipe cleaners into different shapes.

This evening, Jocelyn managed to get a hold of a pipe cleaner that i had bent into the shape of a heart. Not too long after that, Kayla could be heard crying and yelling.

"MOMMY! !" she shouted as she came running towards me, pipe cleaner in hand, "Jocie broke your heart!!!"

  1. :( They really do grow up so fast. FOUR!??!!?!?! At least Jocie still seems relatively young compared to Kayla. Sigh!
