Jocelyn, emerging from the basement: Mommy, are kah-mas upordown?
Me: Kah-mas?
J: Kah-MAS!
Me: Caramels?
Kayla, shouting from the basement: No, COMMAS!!!
Me: Ohhh, commas are down.
J: NO!! They supposed to be UP!
Me: Apostrophes are the ones that are up.
(I go into a long explanation of how commas and apostrophes look the same, lots of kids confuse them, it just depends where they are placed.) So, commas are down.
J: NO! (Slams the basement door closed.)
