Just about Jocie

If blogs still exist 25 years from now, and if my girls ever read these posts, poor little Jocie will think she got the raw end of the deal as the youngest child. (As an oldest child myself, I really wouldn't know what it feels like but based on my siblings' comments, I think there are sometimes a few hints of jealousy. Whether or not they agree with my assessment is a different matter.) So this post is going to be just about Jocie.

These past two weeks, Jocie has officially entered her Terrible Threes. Don't let the phrase "Terrible Twos" fool you, the Threes are worse because kids finally have the vocabulary to argue back! Maybe her behavior has shifted because of the summer-like weather we've had (when's the last time it's hit 80 degrees in March?!), or maybe the pollen is affecting her, but I think it's mostly because she's hit 3.

In spite of the daily (sometimes hourly, it seems) negotiations and fights, Jocelyn has a truly sweet personality. Maybe it's the nature of younger siblings to be able to empathize and share more easily, because that's what they've always known. For example, we were eating a [very large] cookie after dinner tonight. Without anyone asking, she broke off piece of hers and gave me one as well as George.

She is also quite polite for someone her age and says "thank you" or "you're welcome" without being prompted. (must be something her Montessori school teacher has engrained in her, because I'm terrible when it comes to being polite.)

Whenever Kayla and Jocelyn play, they get along for the most part but once in awhile they'll start fighting over toys. This happens when they are playing downstairs in the basement, or at other extremely inopportune times, like in the car on the way to school. It's difficult convincing Kayla to share with her sister, but if Jocie has something that kayla wants and Kayla makes a loud enough fuss over it, Jocelyn will usually give in after a minute (after Kayla quiets down), hand Kayla the toy and say, "here go, Kayla." it is super sweet!

Jocie loves to snuggle with her daddy. After bath, when she is all wrapped up in her duckie hooded towel, all she wants to do is "sun-ggle" for five minutes in George's lap. George doesn't mind at all, of course, and cradles her like an infant for as long as he possibly can. I hope the cuddliness sticks around for a VERY long time.
