What's dat Smell?

The before-bath routine these days is for the girls and me to "hide" in mine and George's bed while he finishes up cleaning dinner. This means that the girls and I sit in the bedroom, in the dark (with the hallway light on), waiting for George to come up the stairs. He tries to be very sneaky about entering the room, and will turn off the hall light so that it's pitch black, and Kayla cannot even tell that I'm tickling her feet from the other side of the bed.  The girls squeal at every little sound they hear in anticipation of Daddy's arrival. George usually pounces right on top of them, and the girls shriek in delight.

Once the lights are turned back on, Kayla negotiates how much time we spend "sleeping" in our bed before it's time for bath.

"Five minutes," she'll tell us.

"No, how about 1 minute," George counters.

"How 'bout 3?"

"Okay, 3 more minutes and then it's bath time."

(I am abridging the typical negotiation, because it goes back and forth so many times it sometimes takes us 2 or 3 minutes before we finally get Kayla to agree on 3 minutes.)

One night last week, we had finished negotiating, and Kayla was laying on her belly with her chin resting on a pillow. She let out a burp, giggled, and promptly said, "'scuse me." One second later she said, "Ew, what's dat smell? "

George had to finish laughing before he told her that it was her burp that smelled like her dinner.

We had just eaten dumplings with a soy garlic dipping sauce.  In the words of Rachael Ray, "YUM-O!!"
