Sang's post about her son's speech reminded me of something Kayla started doing a couple of months ago... She has decided that most plural nouns end with "-es." Sometimes, you add "-es" to pluralize a noun that ends in the "s," "sh," "ch," "x" or "z" sound (okay, I'm no English major but I am pretty certain "pluralize" is not a real word). For example:
class / classes
house / houses
marsh / marshes
fox / foxes
buzz / buzzes
However, Kayla has taken it to the next level and says things like,
I have lots of spoons-es.
Where's my bag? I need all my stuff-es.
I hafta put on my shoes-es.
I'm pushing the chairs-es under the table.
It's quite amusing, hearing how little kids try to make sense out of all the crazy grammar rules in the English language. Speaking of which, according to a BabyCenter.com email I got this past week, Kayla is supposedly officially "fluent" in the English language. That boggles my mind. Wasn't she just learning how to walk and say "gou-gou" and "woof woof" just a few months ago?!
Hey, I do that too! Heheh...and yes, there are some crazy grammar rules. Some I can't even explain!
