Every day.
At the beginning of the Blue's Clues switch, Kayla was pretty easy going. It could be Blue's Clues with Joe or Steve1. Didn't matter who. So I set the DVR to record Blue's Clues so Kayla (and Jocelyn) could watch it whenever we felt it was appropriate. Gotta love the DVR.
After a few days, Kayla started getting mad when we played an episode with Steve in it. She would ask for Joe. And she could tell the difference in the opening scene of the show. "No, not this one. No Steve. I want Joe!!"
So I would scroll through the DVR to find a Joe show. Finally, we found one called "Magenta's Messages." And that was it. Kayla was hooked. And we've been watching that episode every day for a week and a half now. We'll come home from day care and she'll tell me, I want graham crackers go downstairs watch Jenta and Joe go to beach! "Jenta" = Magenta, Blue's doggie friend next door.
Once Joe sings his goodbye and so long song, Kayla will tell whichever adult is downstairs to wait until the book closes to turn off the TV. Today, George was downstairs with Jocelyn and Kayla when the show was ending. Kayla said to him, Remember Daddy, wait til book closes. She watched the credits scroll and the book closed and Kayla was still staring at the TV. Daddy, the book closed, she announced. Then she paused. You can watch Mike Holmes now.
1For those of you non-Blue's experts, the show had two different hosts. The first, Steve, was host for 7 years. His replacement, Joe, was host for only 3 or 4. (And yes, I'm a dork and I Wikipedia-ed it to find out why there were two different dudes on the show.)
goooooooooooood luck! i can sort of sympathize though - for the last 3 months this kid has been playing the same cd every day at least once a day, if not twice or thrice. it drove me nuts at first, but now i've finally been able to tune it out. and forgive the ignorance, but who is mike holmes?

ReplyDeletei love you guys! i love that kayla knows what daddy likes to watch and tells him when he can watch it. jocelyn is getting SO BIG! *sigh* can't wait to see you guys again. =D
ReplyDeletereally Joe over Steve?!? Kayla, we've gotta talk! LOL. i love Mike Holmes...that was a show i'd watch marathon sessions of at one time! that's so nice of kayla to let daddy watch his show after one episode of blue. i wish it were that easy in my house!!!
ReplyDeletei know, personally i think steve was way better than joe. kayla will sometimes say, "i want to watch blues clues purple squares and jenta!" joe wears a purple shirt with purple squares on it in the "Magenta's Messages" episode. maybe she just likes joe for his taste in clothes?!
