Overheard ...

Thanks to Nick Jr and PBS Kids, the girls have quite the vocabulary.

Jocelyn : where my car?

Me: it's over here.

J: No, I don't see it.

Me : Jocelyn, come over here and look under the blanket.

J, toddles over, looks at where I'm pointing, and sees the toy car: oh yah, it's camouflage!

George is taking a photography class and was working on his assignment over the weekend. He had to go outside to take his photos, so I bundled the girls up and took them around to our backyard.

J: where going?

Me: we're looking for daddy, he's somewhere in the backyard taking pictures.

J: no fox?

Me: no, there's no foxes anymore. It's too cold for them to be out.

Kayla : yeah, they went migration where it's warmer!

One evening, during his commute home, George noticed a particularly colorful sunset. There were also lots of cloud streaks from a couple of airplanes that had flown by earlier. He snapped a few pictures on his phone. Later that evening, Kayla was looking at pictures on his phone and saw the sunset pictures and exclaimed, It's the Aurora Borealis!!

My two favorite Jocelyn-isms are:

When she realizes she's missed something really obvious (ie is looking for a toy and it's right behind her, or better yet, she's still clutching it in one hand) and we point it out to her, she gets this sheepish look on her face, flashes a smile and says, "Oh yah." Or, "Oh yah, I know that. "

When she's trying to get her way and is trying really hard to convince someone to give in to her request. For example, she wants chocolate milk instead of plain milk at dinner even though she's already had chocolate milk at breakfast and she knows the rule is only one chocolate.milk per day.

I'll repeat all of that to her and she'll look at me with furrowed eyes and say in a sing-song voice, "That o-kaaaaaaaay."
