Crush?

I think Kayla may have a "crush" on a six year old boy at preschool. A few weeks ago, when I picked up Kayla at the park (where the kids will usually go and play when the weather is nice), Kayla was already on the lookout, waiting for me. She looked really sad and didn't greet me in her usual chipper style. When I finally got her to tell me what was wrong, she said,

I was playing with machine but he left and I was sad.

Took me awhile to figure out that "machine" was somebody's name. All Kayla could tell me about Machine was that he was a big boy in Ms. Cindy's class and that he had brown skin like her friend Karmel's. At that point I decided that Machine was indeed real and not an imaginary friend. The next day at pickup the assistant helped me figure out that Machine was Rashid.

A few days later, Kayla pointed out Rashid to me. His class was walking down the hallway and Kayla just stared at him as he walked by. When I picked her up at the end of the day, Kayla started babbling about Rashid this, Rashid that, blah blah blah. The teacher's assistant and I stifled our smiles. She called Rashid over to say bye to Kayla. He came over and said "Bye Kayla" only she wouldn't say a word and just watched him as he ran off to rejoin his friends.

I have no idea if this is typical behavior of a four-year old girl, but it scares the crap out of me and makes me chuckle all at the same time.
